First off I want to say Happy Birthday to my sister, Erika!
Ok, back to the Road Trip.
Like I said in my last post, our next major stop was my Uncle Mike and
Aunt Barbara’s house in Bakersfield, California. My mom thought we could fit in every national
park there was in between South Fork, Colorado and Bakersfield and we would all
be happy. Yeah right, I guess she didn’t
remember that she had two teenagers in the back of a car with only a Discman to
keep them from getting bored.
Our first stop was Mesa Verde. My mom actually wanted us to get out of the
car and hike down to the dwellings.
Erika and I thought it was too hot and didn’t want to get dirty.
Our next stop I had be looking forward to, Four
Corners. Where else in the United States
can you say you are in four states at the same time? There was a line and I didn’t know if we
would get to the front of the line before it closed but we did.
Our final stop before heading to Bakersfield was the Grand
Canyon. Maybe if I went back now I’d
have some interest in it but back then I thought it was just a big hole in the
ground. My mom asked Erika and I if we
wanted to go to another lookout point and we asked what would we see and she
responded the same thing. Erika and I
just rolled our eyes and headed for the car.
Check back tomorrow for more adventures from The Road Trip:
Part Four.
