The Road Trip: Part Six

California has a big place in my heart because that is where I was born.  I don’t remember living there, but we have home movies and photographs and our current house has at least five pictures hanging of various places from the state.

Our next major stop on our road trip is Santa Clara, California but before we got there we did some sight seeing on the way.  Of course my mom took Route One up the coast.

Our first small stop was in Big Sur at a restaurant called Nepenthe.  My mom discovered this restaurant on her honeymoon.  We ate cream cheese, black olive and date sandwiches on toast.  Mine, of course, without the dates.

After lunch, we got back in the car for a short drive to the Carmel Mission.  It was very small and dark inside but beautiful.  The room we visited was where Father Junipero Serra lived, slept and he was buried beneath the chapel floor in 1784.

After getting back on Route One my mom veered off and took 17-mile drive.  I have been interested in the Lone Cypress ever since I was a little girl because of the picture my dad took that is hanging in our house

I was in awe when I saw this cypress tree thriving all by itself out on a bed of rocks.  This picture doesn’t standup to the quality of my dad’s, but oh well my mom took it.

Check back tomorrow for the final installment of The Road Trip: Part Seven.
