Kansas Basketball Memories

I’ve been a fan of Kansas Basketball since I was a little girl.  My dad used to have general admission seats in the 1990s and we would be up in the last rows of the student section.  I would tell him that we weren’t allowed to sit here and he would say “don’t worry I’ll just show them my student ID if anyone asks”.  Let me remind you that this is a good 30 years after he graduated from the University of Kansas.  I even took a holiday picture with Baby Jay when, I admit now, I was way too old for it.

My dad and I would also go to Forbes Field in Topeka to meet the team after a great win.  There was this time I was getting an autograph from Mark Randall and my dad took a picture of us together.  Only problem was, was that someone walked right in front of the shot while my dad took the picture.  Mark fixed this problem by picking me up for my dad to take our picture.  I was so enamored and instantly Mark became my favorite player until he graduated.

I also remember when my parents still had general admission tickets, we would line up outside Allen Fieldhouse about a half an hour before the doors would open and I would sprint up to section 13, before it became assigned seating, and save seats for my parents.  I was thrilled once my parents received reserved seats but of course by, the next basketball season I had already begun working for Rock Chalk Video Productions and instead of watching the games, I worked the games.
