My Grandma Bette was an excellent quilter. She would sew them all by hand. Unfortunately she had to give up what she
loved because she could no longer see the stitching; and she wouldn’t settle
for making a quilt on the sewing machine.
I’m not passing judgment on people that make quilts on a sewing machine;
it was just not my grandma’s preference.
As my grandma grew older and couldn’t finish a quit by her
self; she joined a quilting guild. In this guild, women would get together and work on one quilt together. They would then auction them off for charity.
What touches me the most is that before she stopped being
able to make quilts on her own; she made two quilts. One for me and one for my sister just in case
we had children one day. She made quilts
for her unborn great grandchildren. That
just touches my heart to the very core and shows how much my Grandma Bette
truly loved each of us in her own way.
My sister received her’s at her baby shower but my mom told me they were
different and won’t show me mine until I have children.
I just bookmarked your blog. I'm almost in tears after reading your thoughts about Grandma Bette and her quilts and seeing photos of you and Eri and her. I LOVE THIS SO MUCH! It means the world to me that you're doing this. Go Jenn!
ReplyDeleteBTW, Kellen and Quinn both treasure the quilts she made for them. I passed another on to Jenny too.
